World Naked Gardening Day

Oh, yeah, it's TOTALLY a real thing.  And let me say in advance that there's nudity on some of the links I'll provide, so if you're delicate, don't click.  It's not anything more provocative than the human body, but for some, that's a little too much.

But there's humor to be had, too.

World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD) occurs on the first Saturday in May.  The brainchild of Mark Storey and Daniel Johnson made it's debut in 2005.  In a 2011 interview with "today" columnist Laura T. Coffey, Storey and Johnson made their views clear: the day wasn't about some kind of protest for the nude community, nor was it meant to be a day of exhibition.  Storey says of the event, "We figured that if people tried gardening naked once, they would smile... We live in a pretty artificial world, and there's something nice about helping something that has a hard time helping itself - plants, in this case."

Probably best not to confuse WNGD -----> (remember, there are naked people on these pages) with the 2014 Kentucky Derby.  Imagine the looks you'd get under the hat brims and over the mint juleps!

Of course, naked gardening isn't for everyone (your humble author included) but for those who feel the need to re-connect with nature on a different level, it might be a day of interest.  And it's important to remember that naturists, like feminists, encourage active community involvement in comfortable and mutually agreed-upon settings.  If getting naked is your thing, find a group and give back to the environment.  If it's not your thing, keep on keeping on in your clothes with your garden.  What's important in planting season is that you plant and care and harvest.  How you do it is ultimately your business.
